Residential Cleaning • Quick Tips

Let’s face it: not everyone can be like us here at Quick & Clean...Unfortunately, not everyone has a passion for cleanliness and making the world a more sanitary place. However, cleaning doesn’t have to be a daunting task, as long as you make adjustments that’ll transform the experience for you and even facilitate it. Follow these tips, and you’ll be sure to happily dance across your kitchen floor with a mop in hand. We promise our information will make cleaning more enjoyable.

1. Make it a party

This tip might sound cliche and childish, but your environment can be the biggest make or break in how motivated you feel about cleaning. Turning household chores into little “projects” with some good audio company can make your attitude do a 180. Crank up some upbeat tunes, an engaging podcast or audiobook, and you’ll forget you even dreaded vacuuming your house! See, cleaning can be enjoyable!

2. Catch up

Suppose you’re more of a social butterfly and prefer communication over listening to a playlist. In that case, time always flies when you catch up with a friend or loved one over the phone. Set up a phone call while you clean and naturally associate the chores with good memories.

3. Divide and conquer

Unless you live by yourself, you shouldn’t be doing all of the cleaning in the first place. Whether it’s you and a roommate, you and a significant other, or you and your family of four, divide up the different household chores. Vary it weekly, so one person is not stuck doing the same mutually dreaded tasks. This will help make cleaning feel less repetitive and redundant and more diversified. And for obvious reasons, dividing up the work will create less work for you overall.

4. Spread it out

There seems to be a widespread belief that there is one designated “cleaning day” of the week. While that routine may work for some, conducting a whole household’s worth of cleaning can be too exhausting and discouraging for one day and can take up the majority of that day. So spread it out! If this works best for you, work in intervals, and assign specific individual tasks for different days. It’ll fall more naturally into your schedule. For instance, you could assign laundry to Mondays, the kitchen to Tuesdays, the living room to Wednesdays, and so on. You will also be more inclined to do a more thorough cleaning if you can spend more time focusing on it.

5. Treat cleaning like a game

Take yourself back to when you were a kid, and your parents would somehow turn a mundane task into a fun one with you because they turned it into a competition. You and your siblings competed against each other to see who could pick up the most things off the floor in innocent fun while simultaneously being productive. This same technique can apply as a grown adult, but with the strategic use of a timer. Set a timer for a realistic increment of time for each task, whether 5, 10, 15, or 45 minutes. To be as efficient as possible, remove any potential distractions from the room and see if you can beat the clock in completing that cleaning task. You will be pleasantly surprised by how productive and ambitious you are when you know that you have a clock ticking away; at the same time, you must complete your task in a timely fashion. Of course, don’t rush whatever you are cleaning, but see if you can get it done quicker than you would’ve if you didn’t have that pressure on you. This will also provide you with insight into how long that task would take next time if you need to plan ahead.

6. Reward yourself

For some, simply imagining how accomplished they will feel once their house is all clean and tidy is enough motivation to get them through their deep-cleaning routine. However, if you need a little more of a push, give yourself some kind of incentive, whatever that may be. Reward yourself with a beverage or treat that you can enjoy after you’ve completed your necessary tasks. Or if you follow a television show, save your cleaning for that day so that you can watch that show once everything is all done. This way, you have something to look forward to that you know will be the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
