Quick Tips

The ceiling is often a neglected region of space when it comes to cleaning and sanitation. Not only does it not receive any foot traffic, but it is also rarely within one’s natural frame of sight. So it’s easy for it to go overlooked. However, it is essentially a direct reflection of the floor, volume-wise, so it should be treated as an equally important surface worthy of attention. Dust, dirt, germs, pollen, and dander can all still accumulate above your head and find their way down to the ground. Cleaning a ceiling can seem like an intimidating, unattainable task unless you have a ladder and superior balance. Good news! We’ve got some tips to facilitate the process of cleaning your ceilings.

1. Use a vacuum

It can feel like common sense and a natural instinct to use a duster to clean your ceilings. After all, it is dust that you’re wanting to remove, in addition to other debris. However, because of gravity, this can be counterproductive and a safety hazard for the individual cleaning it. Unless the duster sucks the dust in like a vacuum, dusters essentially just move dust around, so it accumulates in clusters to then remove. When this is above your head, movement and impact will cause it to fall to the floor, which adds the extra step of cleaning the floor and the other furniture that became contaminated below. Use an extension to use a handheld vacuum, that way you can isolate the dust and debris that would otherwise fall.

2. Purchase lift equipment

High ceilings are a different story than regular ceilings. With high ceilings, ladders are not necessarily the solution. It is recommended to invest in lift equipment to reach those higher surfaces, but please consider the safety precautions that come with it. This equipment might require a harness and other gear.

3. Clean during the day

It’s no secret that you simply see things better during the day. In this case, that means you will be able to spot debris a lot easier and more clearly, saving you a potentially unnecessary second cleaning.

4. Materials to use for cleaning ceilings

When it comes to cleaning in general, you’ll want to look for materials with natural cleaning ingredients like baking soda and rock salt. You’ll want to use liquid soap or a mild detergent, microfiber wipes and mops, sponges, and no-rinse wall cleaner. We are continuously providing tips and tricks for different types of cleaning, so keep an eye out for all of our blog posts!
