Many know how to clean wood, tile, and vinyl floors, but what about concrete? Concrete is not often a part of the conversation when it comes to floor cleaning. However, surprisingly enough, many commercial businesses have concrete floors. These floors require a different cleaning regiment and specific products. If your business has concrete flooring, keep reading to learn more about the proper method to clean your floors.
1. Clear debris from the concrete floor:
Before you mop your concrete floor, you must remove the debris on the floor with a broom or vacuum. Leaving dust, crumbs, or other debris behind could cause some to get rubbed against the floor when mopping and create a stain.
2. Remove tough stains:
If you have any tough stains on your concrete, the best way to remove them is by using a mix of hydrogen peroxide and flour. Apply the mixture to the stained area and let it sit overnight. On the next day, scrape it off using a plastic-edged scraper. If your concrete floor has grease stains, you can apply baking soda to the area and allow it to absorb the grease for a few hours. Then, wipe it off using a damp paper towel.
3. Apply a cleaning solution:
Now it’s time to apply a cleaning solution to your floor. This may sound surprising, but indoor concrete needs a gentle cleaning regimen. The polish on top of indoor concrete flooring could break down if you use harsh chemicals. Therefore, make sure not to use any products with high acidity, ammonia, or bleach. Instead, use castile soap, liquid dish soap, or a mild floor cleaner and apply it by using a wet mop.
4. Mop concrete floor with clean water:
After you’ve applied your cleaning solution, you can take off the soapy residue by mopping your floor once more with clean water.
5. Apply a sealer:
Once a year, you should apply a sealer to protect the concrete floor from future stains. To apply the sealer, use a paint roller and start in the middle of the room. Then, keep spreading the product until you reach the edges of the room. Lastly, spread a concrete floor wax on top of the sealer to ensure it’s long-lasting.
As we explained, concrete floors require a different cleaning process than most other flooring materials. We hope this helped you learn how to properly care for your concrete floors.
